As part of the Grand Challenges Exploration, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is searching for the next generation of male and female condoms. The most important criteria? Enhanced pleasure.

No wonder you check all the time to see if the baby's still breathing, and then go back and check again, new moms are several times more likely to get all OCD than the general population.

Playtex Fresh + Sexy wipes have just come out with a terrible advertising campaign for a terrible product. It's hard to know which does more harm, the chemicals and waste of paper, or the body shaming. Now there's no gender gap for personal care products.

Couples who are happily married are both mentally and physically healthier than their widowed or divorced peers, research shows. Building stronger relationships can improve both people’s spirits and well-being and lower their stress.

As a sexuality educator, I spend most of my time helping parents understand how to talk with their children and teenagers about sex, sexuality, gender, and all of the myriad issues that go along with those things. One question that parents often ask me is how to make sure their teenagers are ready to have sex. Putting aside issues of whether parents should have substantial input and control over their teenager’s sexual activities, I found that parents were relying on goals that were far too vague.
When people are in love, their hearts actually beat for each other, or at least at the same rate, according to new research. Emilio Ferrer, a psychology professor at University of California, Davis, who has conducted a series of studies on couples in romantic relationships, finds that couples connected to monitors measuring heart rates and respiration get their heart rate in sync, and they breathe in and out at the same intervals.
Nearly 99% of all U.S. births take place in hospitals. Nearly a third of those non-hospital births take place in freestanding birth centers – an option for women interested in giving birth with trained professionals outside of hospital obstetrics units. Now, there’s a large new study showing that birth centers are a safe option for both mothers and babies, reaffirming safety findings from previous research.
“It’s a common assumption that the sexual revolution began with the permissive attitudes of the 1960s and the development of contraceptives like the birth control pill,” says Emory University economist Andrew Francis, whose analysis appears in the Archives of Sexual Behavior. “The evidence, however, strongly indicates that the widespread use of penicillin, leading to a rapid decline in syphilis during the 1950s, is what launched the modern sexual era.”

Looking solely at fat content only gives you part of the picture. Back in the 1970s, few foods were specifically manufactured to be low in fat. If, on doctor’s orders, you had to follow a low-fat diet, a trip around the supermarket was fast – skim milk, lots of vegetables and fruit, cottage cheese, fresh fish, and that was about it.

You might eat them in a sauce alongside your Christmas turkey or drink them juiced, perhaps with a shot of vodka. But the sweet, tart cranberry is also well known as a remedy for preventing urinary tract infections (UTIs). Curiously, although there appears to be good scientific reasons why cranberry products could work in preventing UTIs, evidence that it does in real patients has been rather murky.

To mark the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade (on January 22nd), the Guttmacher Institute has released a series of engaging infographics that examine key facts about abortion in the United States. The graphics look at the numbers and demographics of women who have abortions, how abortions are concentrated among lower-income women, the racial and ethnic disparities in reproductive health outcomes, how women pay for abortions, and barriers to abortion access.
