In the following video, Meryl Street appears on The Ellen Show to discuss why she decided to give away the $1 million salary she earned for her acclaimed performance as Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady" to the National Women's History Museum. Streep explains that the museum is raising funds to build a new home on the national mall in Washington, and that she was moved the story of Deborah Sampson; though few people know her by name, she was the first American woman to take a bullet for her country after enlisting in the Revolutionary War under her brother's name.
